NMMA restructures communications department

CHICAGO – The National Marine Manufacturers Association has formally restructured its communications department in conjunction with the launch of the Grow Boating Initiative, NMMA reported in a release yesterday.

NMMA’s former public relations manager, Ellen Hopkins, has been promoted to director of communications. She will report to vice president of marketing and communications, Carl Blackwell, who oversees all marketing efforts for the NMMA and the Grow Boating Initiative.

Hopkins joined NMMA in 2004 from Burson-Marsteller and will lead consumer and trade communications efforts for NMMA and the Grow Boating Initiative. She will also oversee crisis communications and manage the New York-based public relations team responsible for NMMA’s 23 consumer boat shows.

Kelly Kaylor has been hired as public relations manager and will manage the association’s national consumer public relations program, including projects related to the Grow Boating Initiative. She also assumes the lead role on public relations efforts for the Chicago Boat, RV and Outdoors Show and Strictly Sail Chicago.

Formerly with Burson-Marsteller, Kaylor was an associate in the brand marketing practice. Her main accounts included McDonald’s Corp., the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and Ross Products Division of Abbott Laboratories.

Savin will manage trade communications efforts throughout the industry for the association and the Grow Boating Initiative. She will oversee editorial for various NMMA publications including the bi-monthly magazine, Innerport.

Most recently an account executive for the Gurnee, Ill.-based Jerry Martin Company, Savin managed a variety of marine industry clients. Prior to Jerry Martin Company, she spent more than three years as a writer for trade publication Soundings Trade Only.

Kaylor and Savin will report to Hopkins.
