RBEIF to distribute $8,500 in educational grants

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Recreational Boating Industries Educational Foundation, administered by the Michigan Boating Industries Association, recently said scholarship recipients for the 2005/06 school year would receive a total of $8,500.

The RBIEF Board of Directors held its annual meeting in June, during which scholarship applications were reviewed, MBIA said in a release.

The foundation was formed in 1986 to grant college scholarships to deserving students who have an interest in working in the recreational boating industry and to assist students in finding job opportunities in the marine industry.

Scholarship recipients were:

  • Kelly Ward, Charlevoix, Mich. – $1,500
  • Paul Vanderdonck, New Baltimore, Mich. – $1,000
  • Douglas Carmichael, Oscoda, Mich. – $1,000
  • Jeffery Arnett, Dexter, Mich. – $1,000
  • Steven Popkie, Clinton Twp., Mich. – $1,000
  • Brian Denney, Clawson, Mich. – $1,000
  • Andrew Grasley, Deerfield, Mich. – $500
  • Matthew Flutur, Ludington, Mich. – $500
  • Kevin Knust, Fort Gratiot, Mich. – $500
  • Korrey Shoup, Caseville, Mich. – $500
