Marine Movers – ABBRA elects 2005 Board of Directors
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The American Boat Builders and Repairers Association elected its 2005 officers and directors at its annual elections held in Fort Lauderdale Jan. 9 at the National Marina and Boatyard Conference and Exhibition, the association reported in a recent statement.
Jonathan Jones, president of Haven Harbour Marina in Rock Hall, Md., will serve his first term as president of the 22-member ABBRA Board. Peter Sabo of Camanche Yacht Yard was appointed vice-president and Charles Teran of Fiberglass Specialities was re-appointed as secretary/treasurer.
Jones joined Haven Harbour Marina in 1990 and has established the marina as a serious working boatyard with high environmental standards and the look and amenities of a country club, according to ABBRA. The service yard performs rigging, electronic work, painting, fiberglass, major structural work, high-tech composite repair, diesel and gas mechanical work, major engine overhauls, fabrication, carpentry, and cabinetry.
“I look forward to working with the ABBRA officers, directors and management team to built on the work on my predecessor, Bill Munger (Cananicut Marine, Jamestown, R.I.),” said Jones. “In 2004, ABBRA began several new initiatives to strengthen its service to members. For instance, ABBRA formed a partnership with Marine Liens Ltd. that allows ABBRA members to receive a special discount when using the service to check for past liens or to post new claims of liens on boats that have not paid their bills. In 2004, ABBRA also retained lobbyist Larry Innis to increase the organization’s ability to track critical boatyard and repairer-related issues in Washington, D.C., both at the Congressional and agency levels. In 2005, we are looking forward to the launch of the certified Marine Service Manager program and additional strategic industry partnerships.”
New directors include J.B. Turner, Lyman Morse; Jeff Lowell, Boothbay; and Jack Stumberg, Atlantic Yacht Basin. Board members returning for another term include: Phillip Conner, The Hinckley Co.; Jopie Helsen, Sailors Wharf Yacht Yard; and John Underwood, Lockwood Marine, and officers Peter Sabo and Charlie Teran.
