Marine Mover: American Sailing Association appoints new executive director
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The American Sailing Association has appointed Charles “Charlie” Nobles as its new executive director, effective immediately, the association reported in a Friday release.
Nobles will succeed Harry Munns, who guided the organization, which sets standards for certifying sailing instructors and sailors, for more than 20 years, helping it grow to more than 300 schools and 10,000 members throughout the United States.
“In addition to his vast sailing knowledge, he also brings with him business experience that will help the ASA expand its horizons,” ASA President Cynthia Shabes said.
Nobles has more than 20 years of business management experience, including senior executive positions in the publishing, consumer retail and member-based non-profit sectors. He has also served as a business consultant with Booz-Allen Hamilton, and is an avid sailor and a certified ASA instructor.
“ASA wrote the standards in America for sailing education, and I look forward to continuing ASA’s leadership tradition in other areas of the sport,” said Nobles.
Nobles will be responsible for the ASA’s continued growth, and will also work to improve the benefits it offers its affiliated schools, certified instructors and general membership, according to ASA.
New ASA programs for 2004 under Nobles’ direction are slated to include upgrading the insurance programs ASA currently offers its schools and instructors, as well as publishing a new ASA members-only quarterly journal.
