NMEA reconfiguring its standards committee

SEVERNA PARK, Md. – The National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) is seeking candidates for the newly created position of technical director, as part of the reconfiguration of its Standards Committee, a NMEA press release announced Tuesday.

The Standards Committee is an ongoing working group that oversees the continued development of the NMEA 2000 Standard, NMEA 0183 and the Installation Standards. The restructuring will enable NMEA to prepare for continued growth of existing standards and provide for development of future standards and certifications, according to the association.

“We are very excited about this expansion and the positive affects on the industry,” NMEA chairperson Carol Sherburne said. “The growth of NMEA 2000 Certified Products will bring the marine electronics industry into a new era.”

Based on the NMEA Installation Standards, the NMEA CMET (Certified Marine Electronics Technician) and MEI (Marine Electronics Installer) certification programs help provide trained personnel in the service and installation of marine electronic equipment.
