NMMA VP new addition to advisory council
WASHINGTON D.C. — Department of the Interior Secretary Gale A. Norton has
appointed National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA)Vice President of Government Relations, Monita W. Fontaine, to the Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council to represent the interests of recreational marine manufacturers, the association reported in a statement this morning.
The council’s role is to conserve, restore, and enhance the quality, function, sustainable productivity, and distribution of aquatic resources that support and increase recreational fishing opportunities nationwide. In addition, the council aims to increase public awareness of the importance of aquatic resources and the social and economic benefits of recreational fishing and boating, according to the association.
“I am proud to have NMMA represent the interests of recreational boating manufacturers within the U.S. Department of the Interior,” said Thom Dammrich, NMMA president.
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service oversees the Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council. There are 18 council members, all appointed by the Secretary of the Interior. Fontaine will serve on the council through March 2004.
“I am honored to serve on the Sport Fishing and Boating Partnership Council with my colleagues in boating, fishing and conservation groups across the country,” said Fontaine.
