Ferraro named NMEA Technician of the Year

SEVERNA PARK, Md. — The National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) has named Keith Ferraro of Sea-Trac Offshore Services, Inc. as Technician of the Year for 2003, the company reported yesterday.

Ferraro was presented with the NMEA trophy at the organization’s annual conference, held from October 22-25, in Fort Myers, Fla.

A panel of judges chooses the Technician of the Year based on technical competency, as attested by employers, manufacturer satisfaction, FCC and NMEA technical certification, professional growth, and references, according to the company.

“As a sales representative, I’ve called on Keith’s company a number of times and have had the chance to get to know him very well over the years,” said Jim Burdette, NMEA Gulf of Mexico regional director. “Dealing with both commercial and pleasure boating industries in the Gulf of Mexico can certainly make it tough to be a technician in this region, but he’s always willing to go the extra mile to see a job through. His devotion to his company, customers, manufacturers and everyone else in our business is well known throughout the industry.”

In 1984, upon completion of studies in Electronic Technology at R.E.T.S., Ferraro acquired his FCC license with Ships Radar Endorsement. One year later he joined Sea-Trac Offshore, Inc. in Harahan, La. Ferraro attended Louisiana State University and University of New Orleans in business studies prior to completing his electronics training, and received Certified Marine Electronic Technician (CMET) certification in 2002, the company reported.
