New administration effort continues to push E15

Last week, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced a new initiative to expand the use of biofuels like E15 across the country.

In response, NMMA called the effort shortsighted, warning that more E15 in the marketplace will only compound problems consumers are currently facing at their local gas station.

The new proposal – which follows the administration’s decision earlier this year to lift the summertime ban on E15 sales – seeks to pump more than 15 billion gallons of ethanol into the nation’s fuel supply beginning in 2020. To help achieve this, one of the options the administration is considering is permitting retailers to use the same fuel tanks to store both E10 and E15 – a move that NMMA says will create more challenges and confusion for America’s 141 million boaters.

While a final decision is pending, the administration’s action makes it clear that they are continuing to explore ways to increase the volume of ethanol in the nation’s fuel supply. NMMA said it will continue to monitor the situation and educate policymakers on the dangers of expanding the availability of E15.

  1. I can not and will not support any candidate that is in favor of using ethanol as a fuel source. It’s harmful effects on the marine industry along with small engines is well documented and yet it continues to be sold to customers that have no clue the potential damage that is done by this fuel. Phase sepperation and water absorbing out of the air to name a few.

  2. I believe that Trump made some kind of deal with the farmers which he chooses to honor at the expense of the consumers. There is no good for ethanol fuel. Only bad. It reduces mileage and performance in Autos. It destroys small engines. It has been proven to be green neutral so explain to me why we are required by our government to put corrosive fuel in our engines. Why doesn’t anyone fight this. I have written letters, tweeted our congressmen, started petitions and even emailed Rush Limbaugh and cannot get any traction on this. Why doesn’t anyone care. Don’t people mind getting poorer mileage on their cars or having their small engines ruined. I don’t understand.
