Hugelmeyer assumes helm as NMMA president, delivers first industry address

Frank Hugelmeyer started his first day as NMMA president delivering his inaugural industry address at this morning’s International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition & Conference (IBEX) annual Industry Breakfast & Awards Presentation in Tampa. Hugelmeyer, a veteran leader in the outdoor recreation industry, succeeds Thom Dammrich, who spent 20 years as NMMA president and retired yesterday, Sept. 30.

About how he came to NMMA, Hugelmeyer said: “Boating and fishing has been a source of immense joy for me and my family. From close relationships with my parents, brothers and sisters to the cherished relationship I have with my son, I owe a lot to recreational boating. Life is, has been and always will be better on a boat. And, that is why I joined NMMA.”

Prior to NMMA, Hugelmeyer was president of the RV Industry Association (RVIA) since 2015. Before his role at RVIA, he was president and CEO of the Outdoor Industry Association for 14 years. Over the last decade, he has been instrumental in bringing the outdoor industry together and currently serves as the vice chair of the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable.

During his IBEX address, Hugelmeyer reinforced NMMA’s commitment to two strategic priorities that would aid in the future health and success of the industry:

  1. ensuring a business-friendly environment through offense-focused advocacy
  2. growing boating by attracting new and emerging consumers to the boating lifestyle

Looking ahead, he added, “If we’re smart about how we strengthen our relationships in our nation’s capitols, if we support our customers at every turn, and if we embrace new ways to introduce consumers to the memorable, diverse outdoor experiences only available through boating, the future of our industry remains very bright.”
