Scout Boats unveils solar energy system, expansion plans

Scout Boats has just begun generating clean renewable energy to power their manufacturing facility located in Summerville, S.C.

During a ceremony held on May 10 the CEO of Scout Boats, Steve Potts, flipped the switch to unveil the new 592 kilowatt (kW) solar energy system and announce the addition of a second solar energy system to be constructed at Scout Boats by Hannah Solar Government Services (HSGS).

In the first year, the roof mounted solar array is expected to generate 775,752 kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy, which is enough electricity to power 65 homes.

“At Scout, we’ve always taken great pride in not only being one of the most innovative marine manufacturers in the industry, but also being one of the most innovative companies right here in the state of South Carolina,” said Scout CEO/Founder Steve Potts. “We’ve taken great measures over the years to ensure our Summerville-based headquarters and processes are state-of-the-art, not only for our team, but for our customers and community. As one of the largest employers in the tri-county area, we felt it is important, and our manufacturing responsibility, to be a resource for generating clean, renewable energy. Our partnership with HSGS allows us to do just that. The solar array on our newest facility expansion, Plant D, is the start of what we hope will be a longstanding relationship with HSGS. And we hope to set an example for other manufacturers in our state and beyond.”

South Carolina based solar contractor, Hannah Solar Government Services (HSGS) designed, engineered and constructed Scout Boats solar energy system and is currently in the process of engineering and designing their second solar energy system. This second system will consist of four parking canopies, totaling a 605 kW solar PV system. HSGS will begin the construction of Scout Boats parking canopies in the Fall of 2019.
