Marine Industries Association of South Florida break ground on new habitat for humanity build
The Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) board members, sponsors, and staff were on hand to break ground for the third time on a new Habit for Humanity home build, this time at A Rick Case Habitat Community in Pompano Beach.
MIASF member companies, High Seas Yacht Service, Boat Owners Warehouse, Frank & Jimmie’s Propeller, Neptune Boat Lifts, Ward’s Marine Electric, Advanced Mechanical Enterprises, and Centennial Bank are participating sponsors of this year’s home and will have planned teambuilding construction days for employees and others who want to lend a hand up to a deserving family.
Chris Brown, owner of High Seas Yacht Service, says his employees look forward to volunteering on build days and for the past two years have devoted entire Saturdays off to be on site for “truss” day, where they help build and raise the roof trusses. “It’s such a rewarding experience to contribute in such a tangible way and to work side-by-side with the family who will eventually be the recipients of a new home,” he said.
Located on nine acres at the corner of 11th Street and Sixth Avenue, A Rick Case Habitat Community is a development of 77 homes and is the largest project Habitat has built in Broward County.
“The marine industry in Broward County supports 111,000 jobs with an $8.9 billion economic impact,” said Phil Purcell, CEO/president of MIASF. “Our members are passionate leaders in the community who are committed to reinvesting in the area where they live and work to make it a better place for everyone,” he said.
