Montara Boats signs 27 Surf Boss pontoon dealers

Since announcing its Surf Boss surfing pontoon in mid October, Minnesota-based Montara Boats has welcomed 27 dealers to its retail network and has more than 23 additional dealerships pending.

Montara’s patent pending Surf Boss has struck a positive cord with boaters and retailers. Over 60,000 viewers read Montara’s introductory press release which was also a top industry story in October.

“This is huge fun,” said Montara CEO Mark Overbye. “The intent was to build a boat that we would like to own, so flexible that it works for cruising fun and wake sports too. After cracking the code on how to make this work, we knew we had something special. The response to the Surf Boss has been fantastic, we’re flooded with inquiries pouring in from all over the world. Blending the best of pontooning with the explosion of wake surfing is a big win. ”

The company has already retailed four Surf Bosses, said Aaron Fell, CEO of Breakwater Marine in Surrey, British Columbia.

“This may be the most amazing product I’ve seen in the past decade,” Fell said. “People love being able to make everyone in the family happy. The comfort of a pontoon combined with surfing and wake sports fun makes total sense.”

Offering three sizes, Montara’s production is focused on bringing the 25-foot version to market first, followed by the company’s 23-foot and 21-foot versions.

Standard equipment for the collection includes a 409 HP PCM inboard engine, Zero Off GPS speed control, a surf tab system and a 5000 lb ballast system.

Amenities include jumbo transom loungers with fore/aft viewing, a full size head, dual swiveling captains chairs, Rockford Fosgate premium audio system, dual biminis, LED lighting, USB chargers and full digital controls.

“We’ve contemplated adding pontoons for the past several seasons but didn’t find the right fit,” said Greg Waters of Active Water Sports in Portland, Ore. “We speak the wake sports language as a top surf, wake, and ski retailer in the Northwest and see the Surf Boss as the perfect wake sports and pontoon hybrid. The versatility of the Surf Boss brings pontoons to a whole new level,”

Montara will exhibit the Surf Boss at next week’s Marine Dealer Conference & Expo in Orlando and is concentrating on bringing up production to meet demand.

In the first quarter of 2019 a Montara See and Surf training and product experience is being planned for retailers.

Montara’s management team is comprised of avid water sports enthusiasts and champion athletes. For more information, visit www.montaraboats.com.
