Torqeedo reveals 2019 innovations during METSTRADE

Torqeedo is showcasing a number of 2019 innovations across its full product line at METSTRADE 2018 in Amsterdam, Nov. 13-15.

Headlining a series of news releases was the unveiling of two new higher-power versions of the company’s Deep Blue electric propulsion system and a corresponding energy boost in the system’s lithium battery pack technology powered by BMW i.

The new Deep Blue100i 2400 has been specifically designed and constructed to power fast planing motorboats. A low-maintenance, direct-drive design delivers up to 2,400 rpm and torque of 390 Nm.

The heavy-duty Deep Blue 100i 900 is suitable for yachts up to 120 feet long, displacement boats and commercial vessels.

Deep Blue Hybrid provides complete onboard energy management with each component’s energy use being monitored and managed by the central system, harvesting clean energy when available and storing it for later use in propulsion or for hotel loads.

A diesel generator is integrated into the system and used for back-up when the battery supply plus the available renewable energy sources are not sufficient.

“All components in the Deep Blue system are designed and industrially engineered as a fully integrated propulsion and energy management system – perfectly matched to provide an emission-free, quiet and powerful boating experience,” said Torqeedo CEO Christoph Ballin. “The result is exceptional performance and uncompromising safety, compliance with international standards at the system level and intuitive operation.”

Torqeedo also announced a 30 percent-plus capacity increase for its Deep Blue lithium-ion battery.

The Deep Blue series of high-power electric motors are now available in 25 kW, 50 kW or 100 kW power ratings and in outboard, inboard or saildrive configurations.

The new Deep Blue battery can be charged up to 75 percent capacity in as little as 1.5 hours when properly equipped and with adequate shore power.

Torqeedo is continuing its offer of a nine-year limited battery capacity warranty.

The company’s 24-volt battery from the Power series will receive a capacity upgrade, a technical update and a new name for 2019.

The new Power 24-3500 can store 30 percent more power than the previous 24-volt model, now up to 3,500 Wh and is designed as a 24-volt energy source for cruise motors or hotel loads.

The Power 24-3500 is fully waterproof to IP67, can charge quickly and provides a much longer cycle-life than lead-based batteries. The 1,700 W fast charger can fill up the Power 24-3500 in just under two hours.

Torqeedo also announced a new direct-drive, 1,100 W addition to the company’s globally successful Travel series of clean, emission-free and lightweight alternatives to small petrol outboards.

The Travel 1103 C is the quietest motor in its class at just 33 decibels, the same noise level as a human whisper, and boasts an even more rugged design. The motor has a range-extending 73 percent increase in capacity compared to the Travel 1003.

The 1103 C also delivers 10 percent more power from 1,000 to 1,100 W, instantaneous throttle response, a stronger aluminum pylon for increased protection from impact damage and an upgraded transom mount.

The motor delivers equivalent propulsive power to a 3-horsepower combustion outboard and is suitable for boats up to 1,500 kg.

All Travel motors, including the Travel 1103 C, come with a lightweight, high-performance lithium- ion battery that simply clicks on top of the motor, has an integrated USB port for charging a mobile phone or camera, and is easy to remove for charging.

“Since the launch in 2005, the market-leading Travel series of electric outboards has changed the way boaters power their dinghies, tenders and small sailboats,” Ballin said. “The Travel 1103 C builds on this success with a silence-focused design, instantaneous throttle response and an even more durable construction while maintaining high-tech features our customers expect.”

Torqeedo also announced that its 1 HP Ultralight kayak motor will receive a new mounting system for the coming kayak fishing season.

Torqeedo’s lightest outboard offers reliable performance, an innovative new angler mount and all the high-tech features of a genuine Torqeedo system: GPS built-in, real-time range and runtime display, solar charging and the latest lithium battery technology.

Two battery options are available – 320 and 915 Wh – so anglers can choose the capacity that fits their needs, their kayak and their waterways.
