NMMA meets with officials on Everglades restoration funding

This week, NMMA met with officials from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Department of Interior, and Office of Management and Budget to discuss the importance of robust federal funding for Everglades restoration projects in fiscal year 2020.

The health of the Everglades remains a top issue for the industry, as the system is a key ecological and environmental source of water and recreation for nearly 1 million boaters in Florida.

The visits with administration officials followed the recent passage of the America’s Water Infrastructure Act of 2018 (S.3021) – which authorized the Everglades Agricultural Area plan – as well as the development and implementation of new technologies to better detect, prevent, and manage current and future harmful algae bloom outbreaks.

NMMA will continue to engage with the administration and Congress and share the industry’s Everglades restoration and conservation priorities as they draft spending legislation.
