Michigan Boating Industries Association appoints new officers

The Michigan Boating Industries Association Board appointed Patti Smith of Silver Spray Sports as chair of the MBIA Board of Directors and Andy MacLachlan of Jefferson Beach Yacht Sales as vice chair during its April Meeting.

Jim Coburn of Coburn and Associates will remain the secretary/treasurer of the association.

Smith, formerly vice chair, will fill the position of chair left from the recent passing of Tom Haag, former vice president of Colony Marine in St. Clair Shores.

“Patti and Andy are strong leaders and advocates for the recreational boating industry in Michigan. We welcome their leadership,” said MBIA Executive Director Nicki Polan.

MBIA is the official, state-wide marine industry association which serves as the voice to Michigan’s $7.4 billion marine industry and the 4 million people who enjoy Michigan’s nearly 1 million registered boats.

The MBIA is dedicated to the advancement, protection and promotion of boating across Michigan.

MBIA produces three association-owned boat shows: The Detroit Boat Show at Cobo Center; the Novi Boat Show in Novi; and the Metro Boat Show in Harrison Township.

The proceeds from the shows benefit boating in Michigan through MBIA programs and promotions.
