NMMA issues biobutanol action call as EPA deadline looms

Last week, the National Marine Manufacturers Association was successful in putting biobutanol—the industry’s solution to E15— on the radar of EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt.

During a high-profile hearing on Thursday, April 26, Georgia’s Rep. Buddy Carter, who recently voiced his concerns about E15 in a different hearing, again brought up the need for boaters to have an alternative to E15.

A champion for the industry, Carter specifically asked Administrator Priutt to approve biobutanol for on-highway use, which would make it widely available in retail gas stations. Carter’s comments begin at 2:25:40.

The NMMA has worked with Rep. Carter and his staff to educate them on the dangers boaters face from E15 and the far reaching impact this would have on the recreational boating industry.

As a leader on the Energy and Commerce Committee, Carter is working to ensure boaters needs are addressed as Congress moves to reform the Renewable Fuel Standard.

NMMA is urging the boating and marine industry to tell the EPA to promote biobutanol by visiting Boating United. The EPA public comment period closes tonight (April 30).
