NMMA’s Vasilaros appointed to NBSAC

For the first time in more than 10 years, the National Marine Manufacturers Association will have representation on the National Boating Safety Advisory Council (NBSAC), with the appointment of Nicole Vasilaros, NMMA’s vice president of Federal and Legal Affairs.

Vasilaros’ term runs through Dec. 31, 2019. The council has consistently provided invaluable advice to the Coast Guard on a broad range of boating safety matters.

Other appointees in the Recreational Vessel Manufacturers & Associated Equipment Manufacturers division include Wayne Burdick, marine industry consultant, Jim Emmons, Water Sports Industry Association (WSIA), Tim Williams, Edgewater Boats, and David Slikkers, S2 Yachts.

The NBSAC was established by the Federal Boat Safety Act of 1971. The law requires the Secretary of Homeland Security, and the Commandant of the Coast Guard by delegation, to consult with the Council in prescribing Federal regulations, and regarding other major boating safety matters.

The Director of Inspections & Compliance (CG-5PC) in Coast Guard Headquarters is the Council’s Sponsor, and the Chief, Office of Auxiliary and Boating Safety (CG-BSX) is NBSAC’s Designated Federal Officer (DFO).
