ISO standards available on ABYC’s online library

American Boat & Yacht Council members can now access the current International Organization for Standardization (ISO) small craft standards on the ABYC Online Library, adding to the suite of resources available including ABYC Standards, federal regulations, United States Coast Guard Compliance Guidelines, and the International Council of Marine Industry Association (ICOMIA) conformity guidelines.

“ABYC is excited to offer its members ISO small craft standards on its online Library, which will save our members thousands of dollars,” said Craig Scholten, ABYC technical vice president. “If you bought the suite of 68 ISO standards individually from other standards providers it would cost you more than $12,000.”

The ABYC library is automatically updated when new standards are published, allowing ABYC members to always have the latest edition. Scholten said that this feature is important since the latest European Union (EU) Directive requires new product be in compliance with the latest standards.

Scholten said “grandfathering” CE product compliance to non-current standards is not allowed by Directive 2013/53/EU and manufacturers need to ensure that procedures are in place for series production to remain in conformity with current standards.

ABYC technical support on the application of all standards and guidelines on the ABYC library is included with membership. The comprehensive standards and regulations library also has search and print features. An introductory discount is available for ABYC members to purchase ISO standards for $349 until Nov. 3. Purchase online at www.abycinc.org/iso.
