Powerboat registrations up 5.8 percent in May

The National Marine Manufacturer’s Association’s New Powerboat Registrations Report has been updated through May 2017, and advance data show new powerboat registrations were up 5.8 percent year-over-year for the rolling twelve-month period through May.  Highlights from the report include:

  • Nearly all segments were up through May. Growth in registrations was led by the following segments: jet boats (up 12.8 percent), personal watercraft (up 10.7 percent), saltwater fishing boats (up 10.1 percent), tow boats (up 8.1 percent) and pontoons (up 6.8 percent).
  • Outboards boats, which represent 65 percent of total new powerboat sales, were up 4.6 percent in registrations. 
  • Larger boats, 27’ and greater, were up 10.6 percent through May.
