Massachusetts Marine Trades Educational Trust holds boat fundraiser auction

The Massachusetts Marine Trades Educational Trust is currently running a fundraiser boat auction. The MMTET is auctioning off a 2016 Robalo R160 boat package complete with a 70HP Yamaha outboard engine and a matching trailer. The auction will run through the final day of the New England Boat Show Sunday, Feb. 19 with the highest bidder winning the boat package.

Recognizing two main obstacles in the recreational boating market, the MMTET will be donating all of the proceeds from the fundraiser to two important industry wide initiatives. Fifty percent of the proceeds will go directly to MMTET’s scholarship fund to provide assistance for those students looking to pursue a career in the marine industry. The remaining 50 percent will be donated to the new Kids In Boating initiative that the association recently started. This initiative is focused on supporting youth boating programs in our state. The goal of the initiative is to get more kids boating in a safe and smart manner while at the same time having fun on the water and enjoying the boating lifestyle.

The boat package was donated by 3A Marine in Hingham, Mass., and Robalo Boats. Ed Lofgren, owner of 3A Marine, recognizes the sustainability of the boating industry depends on training and educating young people today in an effort to keep the industry growing in the future.

The MMTET is a non-profit branch of the Massachusetts Marine Trades Association. The educational trust was established in 2003 to promote education, training and workforce improvement in the Massachusetts boating industry.
