Tohatsu America Corp. announces new 2017 engines, updates

Tohatsu America Corp., distributor of Tohatsu Outboards, has introduced several innovations and changes for the 2017 model year.

TAC announced its new Liquefied Petroleum Gas outboard, available for purchase in April, at IBEX 2016. This new 5hp motor is powered by propane, which is considered the next generation of fuel. Compared to gasoline, LPG exhausts 12 percent less CO2, thus making it a cleaner option for boaters.

“The most appealing feature is that sailors are no longer forced to carry gasoline on board,” said Jim Morgenthaler, vice president of TAC. “We know this is something that has been requested for many years, and we are excited to finally offer an LPG outboard to our customers.”

Tohatsu’s new LPG motor features easier starting, quieter operations and requires less maintenance on fuel related parts. This 5hp LPG outboard comes in a variety of shaft lengths including short, long and ultra long Sail Pro model.

Tohatsu has another new outboard debut for 2017, the 40/50hp Four Stroke in Beluga White. Tohatsu introduced the 40/50hp Four Stroke in 2014. Available in May 2017, the engine now has an additional color option to help boaters choose which color best fits with their boat.

The innovations for 2017 continue with the announcement of the 9.9/15/20hp, lightest in its class, battery-less Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) outboard. The company says this engine offers excellent fuel efficiency, easier starting and the decreased possibility of ethanol related problems. Tohatsu anticipates availability in early Autumn 2017.

“We are very excited to be able to offer these incredibly innovative new additions to our product line in 2017,” said Morgenthaler. “Our new LPG and EFI outboards make boating easier, and more user-friendly. Plus, the Beluga White 40/50hp Four Stroke adds a new level of customization to our lineup. With these new additions, we are increasing the variety of boaters Tohatsu will cater to.”

All of the new Four Stroke outboards, as well as Tohatsu’s entire lineup of portable, mid-range, large horsepower and TLDI motors, are backed by the Tohatsu 5-Year Limited Warranty.
