U.S. Congressman Rick Crawford visits Bass Cat/Yar-Craft

Earlier this week, Bass Cat/Yar-Craft employees had the honor of a special visit from U.S. Congressman Rick Crawford (R-AR) as a part of the STEM Education and Manufacturing Tour throughout the First District of Arkansas.

Congressman Crawford’s tour, in partnership with the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Education Coalition, is an effort to explore the various educational and career opportunities available to students who are proficient in STEM resources, by getting local teachers into the workplaces of regional employers.

A group of fifteen local educators (mostly high school but also some middle school and college level), Chamber members and industry leaders across the region joined Congressman Crawford for a tour of Bass Cat and Yar-Craft’s manufacturing facility, followed by discussions with company President Rick Pierce.

“We always enjoy having Congressman Crawford visit as he is very engaging,” Pierce said. “Congressman Crawford takes action towards initiatives that are right for the country and that is always refreshing.”

The STEM Education Coalition works aggressively to raise awareness in Congress, the Administration and other organizations about the critical role that STEM education plays in enabling the U.S. to remain the economic and technological leader of the global marketplace of the 21st century. Members of the STEM Coalition believe that our nation must improve the way our students learn science, mathematics, technology and engineering and that the business, education and STEM communities must work together to achieve this goal.
