IBEX will feature ‘Future Materials’ exhibit

Boat builders will have a chance to see innovative materials, processes, and technologies in the “Future Materials” hands-on exhibit at the center of the Composite Pavilion at the International Boatbuilders’ Exhibition & Conference (IBEX) this October.

Curated by editors from Professional BoatBuilder and CompositesWorld magazines, this collection has been gathered from a wide variety of sources including marine, aerospace, and automotive industries, plus some applied academic research and development.

IBEX will be held October 4-6, 2016, at the Tampa Convention Center, Tampa, FL.

“One of CompositesWorld’s main goals this year is to show IBEX attendees materials and process technologies in several key areas, including nanotechnology, recycling and sustainability, and improved form and function, which could range from visually stunning fibers and laminates to added functionality like electrical conductivity. Manufacturers need to keep ahead of these trends in order to appeal to today’s educated customers. We want to stimulate ideas of how to incorporate new technology into products that help the environment and offer improved performance and value,” said Ginger Gardiner, senior editor,  CompositesWorld magazine.

“At last year’s Future Materials exhibit we saw hundreds of really curious people-chiefly boat builders, designers, and technicians-who were fascinated by the potentials offered by the emerging composites technologies we’d selected for them,” said Aaron Porter, editor of Professional BoatBuilder magazine. “They got to know those materials and processes first hand in a casual environment where they could hold new unprocessed laminates, touch and visually inspect samples of finished composites, and experience live demonstrations of more subtle qualities like vibration dampening. Thanks to CompositesWorld’s broad knowledge of cutting-edge composites technologies and trends, we’re offering a completely new selection of promising, inspiring, and sometimes baffling composites products as practical solutions and brain candy for the boat designers and builders at IBEX 2016.”

Composites materials manufacturers with cutting-edge ideas and approaches that have not yet made it to the mainstream of composite boatbuilding can submit samples and descriptions to be reviewed for consideration. Click here for the application or email entries to Aaron Porter at aaron.porter@proboat.com and Ginger Gardiner at ggardiner@compositesworld.com. The deadline for entries is May 11. Final selections for this exhibit space will be made by Professional BoatBuilder and CompositesWorld magazine editors.

“We look forward to working with the editors of these two industry leading publications to bring the most innovative products to the IBEX show floor,” said Anne Dunbar, IBEX show director.
