Yamaha praises Governor Rick Scott for support of fishing and boating community

The Yamaha Marine Group praised Governor Rick Scott for once again demonstrating his commitment to over 865,000 Florida jobs dependent on boating and fishing. The Governor has recently conducted a thorough selection process for nominees to serve on the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (Gulf Council), during which he made his top priority to listen to the needs and desires of Florida’s citizens. By acting upon the feedback he received from Floridians, the Governor has taken action that will support over 5,500 small businesses in Florida.

“Governor Scott has once again demonstrated his commitment to Florida jobs through his recent selection of Gulf Council nominees. We are extremely thankful to the Governor for the diligence he demonstrated throughout the process, and the care he took to make sure the citizens of Florida had a voice in the process,” said Ben Speciale, president of Yamaha Marine Group. “I think it is very important that the governor has made a habit of listening to the people of his state, and that he is strongly committed to the jobs supported by boating and fishing businesses in Florida. The citizens of Florida are very lucky to have leaders like Governor Scott in office.”

The Secretary of Commerce, who will select one final appointee to serve on the Council, will now consider Governor Scott’s nominees for the Gulf Council. Council members are tasked with managing marine resources to the greatest benefit of the nation, as outlined by Congress in the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA). Council members serve three-year terms and are limited to a maximum of three consecutive terms.

Yamaha has relationships with more than 300 independent boat builders and dealers in Florida.
