NMMA sells Los Angeles, San Diego boat shows; cancels San Francisco for 2017

The National Marine Manufacturers Association is closing its NMMA West office as it cancels or sells three California boat shows.

The association announced Wednesday that it is transferring ownership of both the Los Angeles and San Diego boat shows to Duncan McIntosh, a California-based publisher of boating magazines and producer of other boat shows, including the Newport Boat Show.

NMMA will also not be producing a 2017 San Francisco Boat Show. In January, NMMA canceled the 2016 edition of the show.

“It was not an easy decision to make but after listening to our exhibitors and exploring our options for alternative host sites, it became clear we would not be able to produce the kind of event our attendees and exhibitors have come to expect from NMMA,” NMMA president Thom Dammrich said in a statement. “We thank our exhibitors for their support as we looked to use this show as a way to reinvigorate the Northern California market and hope our exhibitors understand our reasons behind this difficult decision.”

With the changes, NMMA is closing its NMMA West office later this spring. NMMA West was formed in 2012 when the Southern California Marine Association merged with NMMA. The Northern California Marine Association followed suit in 2013.
