Caterpillar launches C7.1 propulsion engine

MIAMI Caterpillar Marine announced the launch of the Cat C7.1 high-performance diesel engine for recreational applications. The new propulsion engine is available in three ratings: 507 mhp (373 bkW), 456 mhp (336 bkW) and 406 mhp (298 bkW), all at 2900 RPM. All C7.1 power ratings meet EPA Tier 3, IMO II, EU Recreational Craft Directive and EU Stage IIIA regulations. The new platform will be available to order from the global Cat dealer network in March 2016.

“The new turbocharged C7.1 platform is a powerful, compact addition to our high-performance product portfolio,” Charlson Smith, Caterpillar Marine sales manager, noted. “The engine offers a superior power to weight ratio, resulting in a swift response time and speedy acceleration.”

The C7.1 is ideal for recreational boating applications, specifically smaller vessels and motoryachts ranging from 25 to 60 feet in size. The engine features a common rail fuel system enabling optimum combustion and low emissions. The engines provide quiet operation due to reduced combustion noise through electronic control. Additionally, no visible smoke is emitted from the C7.1 engines during operation.

“Beyond the quiet, smokeless performance of the 7.1, a key benefit to the customer is the serviceability of the engine due to its small footprint. Maintenance is made easy even in the most compact of engine rooms,” said Smith.

The Cat C7.1 marine propulsion engine will be on display at the Caterpillar booth at the 2016 Yachts Miami Beach show. Visit Caterpillar on Collins Avenue, Ramp 15; Yacht Pavilion 2-5.
