June boat sales show slowing growth

Boat sales continued their year-over-year growth in June, but the growth rate also continued to slow, according to the latest Info-Link Bellwether Report.

Sales were up about 7 percent on a rolling-12-month basis, down slightly from May’s growth rate and off of the 10 percent rolling-12-month rate of earlier this year.

The Bellwether report tracks boat sales across the country based on new U.S. boat registrations. Bellwether states are geographically dispersed states representing roughly half of the US boat market (varies by market segment and time of year).

The SportFish segment showed the strongest growth, up just more than 10 percent. The ski boat, PWC and outboard segments all increased by 10 percent for the 12-month period.

The sterndrive/jet segment was the only one to decline as it has been since early 2013. Sales were down by more than 5 percent for the period.
