NMMA: New powerboat registrations up in 2015 Q1

New boat and PWC registrations were up 6.5 percent year-over-year for the first quarter of 2015 compared to 2014, NMMA reported.

Sales were up 9.5 percent on a rolling 12-month basis, year-over-year (April 2014-March 2015 compared to April 2013-March 2014).

PWCs, jet drive boats, skiboats, and outboard boats led growth, up 20.2 percent, 15.4 percent, 14.7 percent and 7.9 percent (R12M YOY) respectively. Sterndrive boats were down 7.2 percent and inboard cruiser sales were down 3 percent.

Growth was led by the South Atlantic region, which spans the Atlantic Coast from Delaware south to Florida, with sales up 14.9 percent. The Pacific region, which spans the Pacific coast from Washington to California, including Hawaii, was up 14 percent. The East South region (which includes Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee) was up 5.2 percent.
