Florida Gov. Rick Scott highlights job creation during visit to Boston Whaler

Boston Whaler was pleased to welcome Florida Gov. Rick Scott when he visited the company’s Edgewater, Fla., headquarters on May 13. The governor’s visit served to highlight the recent completion of an 18-month-long expansion project, which included the addition of more than 58,000 square feet of under-roof manufacturing space and the creation of more than 120 new jobs. Boston Whaler and its sister company, Brunswick Commercial and Government Products (BCGP), now employ more than 700 people in Edgewater.

“Boston Whaler is one of many companies that have recognized Florida as the best place to grow their business and we are excited to celebrate their most recent expansion today,” said Gov. Scott. “Job creators like Boston Whaler growing in our state have resulted in more than 841,000 new jobs since December 2010, which means more Floridians are able to provide for their families. We will keep working to support this growth so Florida can become the global destination for jobs.”

Boston Whaler President Huw Bower emphasized Whaler’s loyalty not only to its customers, but also to the community it has called home for nearly three decades.

“Boston Whaler is committed to creating the safest, easiest to own, and most exciting boats on the water, and Florida is truly the best place for us to meet that goal,” said Bower. “We are grateful to Gov. Scott for visiting our facility to highlight our recent incredible growth, and we look forward to continuing to serve our great customers and grow our dedicated team here in the Sunshine State.”

During his visit, Gov. Scott was taken on a tour of the plant, after which he addressed the media. The governor took the opportunity to acknowledge Whaler’s employees and to thank the Volusia County Council and Edgewater Mayor Michael Ignasiak for their support of the facilities expansion project and ongoing efforts directed at increasing high quality jobs and business investment.

“Boston Whaler has more than doubled in jobs at our Edgewater plant since the end of 2010,” said Bower. “We have invested, and will continue to invest, in training and education to offer all of our employees opportunities for advancement and growth. We are committed to being the best partner we can be—to our customers, our dealers, our suppliers and our local community. We’re excited for the future, and know that we can count on Gov. Scott’s support to create the right conditions for business growth and job creation.”
