West Marine announces new PortSupply.com

WATSONVILLE, Calif. -- West Marine, the world’s largest specialty retailer exclusively offering boating gear, apparel, footwear and other waterlife related products, announced the launch of a new Portsupply.com.  Founded in 1978, shortly after West Marine began operating, Port Supply is the company’s wholesale division which serves the needs of boat dealers, builders, marinas and yards, charter boat business, plus institutional and governmental agencies. The eCommerce portal was designed to meet the needs of West Marine’s 40,000 Port Supply business-to-business wholesale accounts located in the U.S. and internationally.

“PortSupply.com is now significantly faster and easier to navigate, but it also includes several important new functionality features,” says Kevin Osborn, West Marine’s Vice President for Port Supply. “For our customers, the new portsupply.com means less time spent procuring products and more time focused on growing the profitably of their businesses.”

The new functionality features at PortSupply.com give customers:

  • Visibility into local inventory to easily check product availability and estimate arrival times
  • Ability for multiple signers to access PortSupply.com at the same time, since logins are now email-based
  • Superior search functionality making it easier and quicker to find products
  • New checkout process that allows them to store shipping information for future purchases
  • An optimized mobile site to support customers on-the-go will be launched later this year

“We expect the new portsupply.com to be very well received by our commercial accounts,” says Osborn. “Customers are free to make all their purchases independently online, shop the convenience and assortment of our 275+ stores, or utilize the service and expertise of our sales team. It’s always the customer’s choice what selling channel they prefer to purchase from.”

  3. Wonderful news. My local West Marine has decided that 75% of the store should be t shirts and flip flops. Oh and coolers and plastic surf boards and tervis tumblers. The epoxy, fasteners, varnish, and paint? A dusty aisle or two in the back.
