Freedom Boat Club plans special day for children of Hubbard House

Jacksonville, Fla., June 26, 2014– Freedom Boat Club (FBC) thinks it should be mandatory. If you live in Jacksonville, surrounded by its beautiful waterways, you need to enjoy them on a semi-regular basis. So, in that spirit, FBC is once again providing a special opportunity, this time for the children of Hubbard House.

On Wed, July 2, the FBC will be treating a group of children from Hubbard House to a special day out on the water and a visit to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens.

“A day at the zoo is always fun,” said Lisa Almeida, CEO of Freedom Boat Club Jacksonville and St. Augustine. “And we wanted to take it a step further by adding a boat outing as well. Being on the water is a great way to relax and experience the city from a different view. We are looking forward to seeing smiles on the faces of these kids and treating them to a day full of fun.”

The children and their chaperones will gather at Freedom Boat Club’s home dock at the Julington Creek Marina, then cruise down the river to the zoo. After spending the day enjoying the various exhibits and displays at the zoo, and having lunch there, the group will return to the FBC boats for the return trip to Julington Creek Marina.

Almeida said she enjoys working with local charities and sharing the resources of the Freedom Boat Club. Hubbard House provides an important service and Almeida said she hopes this time on the water and visit to the zoo will make a memorable impression on the children.

Hubbard House helps victims of domestic violence and their children by providing safety, empowering them through counseling to develop life management skills, and creating social change through education and advocacy.
