WSIA awarded U.S. Coast Guard safety grant

ORLANDO, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard recently awarded a federal grant to the WSIA’s education division, Water Sports Foundation, to increase awareness of boating safety and reduce boating accidents and deaths.

The federal grant worth $637,341 was presented to the WSF to go toward boater education and safety. The WSF will be working with Bonnier Corporation to spread the message through the corporation’s marine publications.

“We have been challenged by the U.S. Coast Guard to make a difference in boating safety and we believe that over time, our comprehensive plan will ultimately change public behavior and attitudes,” Jim Emmons, project administrator for the grant, said in a press release.

The WSF said that it will spread the boating safety message through a variety of media including video webisodes, boating safety websites, games, banner ads, newsletters and a social media campaign.
