Maine marina owner wants speed limits enforced

KITTERY, Maine — The owner of Badger’s Island Marina East and West is asking the states of Maine and New Hampshire to enforce boat speed limit laws after the wakes from two boats damaged at least nine vessels in the marina.

Owner Darren LaPierre said the wakes of two large yachts created a “mini tsunami” that threw one docked boat through the air in the Friday incident “like a projectile” into the hull of another one, according to a story in the Bangor Daily News.

The Army Corps of Engineers has jurisdiction over the area.
