SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Mexican authorities are paying increased attention to US fishing boats that cross into Mexican waters.
According to a report in the Hermosa Beach Patch, the Mexican Navy has been boarding boats for inspection and to check citizenship documents of passengers.
There has been confusion among various parties on where passports are necessary:
A recent Sportfishing Association of California (SAC) newsletter said that passports were only necessary if sport fishing boats went south of the Mexican city Ensenada.
Mexican officials say, however, that all boaters must carry a passport when entering Mexican waters — including anglers heading to Coronado Islands.
