Boat School purchase falls through

EASTPORT, Maine — Marlow Yachts owner David Marlow has aborted plans to purchase the Deep Cove Marine and Boat School facility.

In 2010, Marlow began discussions with the city to purchase the facility for $850,000. Plans for the property were multifold: it was to include a boat-building school, a production facility for luxury yachts and a maritime museum. Long-term plans called for waterfront upgrades and at least 100 new jobs.

It is unclear why Marlow backed out, according to a report in the Bangor Daily News, and he could not be reached for questions.

As late as Tuesday, Marlow contacted the city and said plans were on track. Property surveys were competed and the city had done work on the property in anticipation of the sale.

It is unclear what will happen to the school, though those involved are not optimistic about its survival, according to the article.
