Outboard boat sales show first increase in 5 years

MIAMI — Powerboat sales continue to move toward stabilization, declining less than 5 percent in June, according to Info-Link Technologies Inc.’s Bellwether Report, which provides a rolling 12-month year-over-year percent change in unit sales.

Outboard sales boats fared even better — increasing for the first time in more than five years.

You have to go back to June 2006 to see a rate of decline less than 5.0 percent.

Unit sales of personal watercraft declined about 16 percent. Ski boat sales were down approximately 13 percent. Sterndrive/jet boats were down about 19 percent. Outboard sportfishing boats were down about 15 percent.

The Bellwether Report is based on new U.S. boat registrations in geographically dispersed states representing roughly half of the U.S. boat market.
