Dock owners concerned over Columbia River proposal

PASCO, Wash. — The US Army Corps of Engineers’ published draft for the McNary Shoreline Management Plan was the subject of comment for 250 community members along the Columbia River.
The plan proposes new development plans for 200 miles of shoreline, including private and community docks. Under debate are dock regulations.
The current plan allows those with existing docks to maintain their access, provided they fit new requirements under the Endangered Species Act. The requirements will apply to existing and new docks, and include length limitations and special decking. Owners of current docks say the new regulations are not fair and modifications will be costly, according to an article in the Tri-City Herald.
There currently are 73 docks in the area covered under this plan.
The Corps is accepting comments until June 27, but may extend the comment deadline.
