WASHINGTON — The National Ocean Council recently released its draft National Policy for the Stewardship of the Ocean, our Coasts and the Great Lakes.
The strategic action plan addresses pressing challenges facing U.S. aquatic resources. In honor of the release of the draft National Policy, President Obama has declared this month National Oceans Month.
The National Ocean Council is asking boaters and other stakeholders for their feedback, hosting a 12-city listening tour around the country to gather input. Comments on the draft are also being accepted online at the National Ocean Council’s website.
“NMMA supports the draft policy’s endorsement of sustainable recreational use of ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes resources, which includes fishing, boating, swimming and diving, and will carefully review the report and submit comments in the upcoming weeks,” the NMMA said in a statement.
