ABBRA sets annual field trip locations

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — The American Boat Builders & Repairers Association has finalized the locations for its annual field trip. The trip departs via coach bus July 19, just after the close of the groups annual conference from the event’s host hotel.

According to the group, the locations are:

Burr Brothers Boats, Inc
Burr Brothers Boats is located at the head of Sippican Harbor in Marion, Massachusetts. They employ approximately 50 people and provide winter storage and maintenance for about 300 boats, mostly in heated sheds. As well as offering a staff of Awlgrip experts, Burr Brothers provides fiberglass repairs, professional rigging, NMEA- and ABYC-certified electrical technicians, skilled carpentry, a helix-anchored mooring field, an outboard department, and employs 10 full-time certified engine mechanics. We will visit this 65 year old family business and see how they organize their work flow.
 
Fairhaven Shipyard (North and South Facilities)
As one of the oldest and largest shipyards in New England, Fairhaven Shipyards’ services are supported by 15 acres of waterfront property and highly experienced staff. Fairhaven specializes in shipyard services that include major re-fits, re-powering, a complete Engine Shop with factory-trained mechanics and on-the-road services available 24/7, comprehensive, on-site Parts Department, full Paint Facilities, expert shaft alignment, Machine Shop, Electrical Department, Joinery Shop, ABS Certified welders, fiberglass repairs, custom fabrication, hauling of vessels on our 3 Travelifts (35, 300 and 440 ton) or up to 1,000 tons and 220′ on our 2 marine railways any time, day or night. The Marina has seasonal and transient concrete floating slips up to 120′ in length and 18′ in depth as well as fixed pier dockage up to 200′. Fairhaven is an Authorized Servicing Dealers for CAT Marine Power, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Northern Lights and Lugger, and ZF Marine Gears.
 
Bayline Boatyard
Bayline Boatyard & Transport has been a leader in service for both the recreational and the commercial marine industry since 1986. With a five and a half-acre facility, Bayline Boatyard & Transport provides repowers and refits, gas and diesel engine repair, product installations, custom fabrication, propeller and shaft repair, a full parts department and ship’s store, winterizing and spring commissioning, heated winter storage, 24-hour emergency haul-out and hurricane service, plus mobile and dockside services. As the company name implies, Bayline Boatyard & Transport is well known for its professional boat delivery and transportation for vessels up to 55′ and 35 tons with hauling and launching up to 65′ and 40 tons. With a 12-ton mobile crane and seasonal and transient moorings for boats up to 50′, Bayline also acts as a factory dealer for Mercury, Mercruiser, Crusader, Yanmar, Westerbeke, and other engine and parts manufacturers.
 
South Wharf Yacht Yard
Since 1832, South Wharf Yacht Yard, a full-service boatyard and marina in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts, has played an important role in the local marine community-from the early days of constructing whaling ships to present-day high-end private yacht services, including outfitting, repair, rigging, engine repower, refinishing, welding, ABYC-certified electrical technicians, a carpentry shop, and an on-site sail loft (Doyle Sails). With 86 protected slips and four wharfs that can accommodate vessels up to 130′ with 10′ draft in a well protected yet popular cruising ground, South Wharf hosts many transient customers as well as seasonal boaters. The yard’s slips provide both side-to and stern boarding with fixed pier or floating wooden docks. The float system was upgraded in 2005 and the yard includes a state-of-the-art pressure wash system, climate-controlled boat sheds, a certified mechanical team, inboard and outboard service, and employs one of only 60 Master Yamaha Mechanics in the country.
