JORDAN LAKE, N.C. — Lee Sykes will open a TowBoatUS location on Jordan Lake in North Carolina, according to a release from BoatUS. This is his second TowBoatUS business.
Sykes worked for the Beaufort, N.C., TowBoatUS for four years before purchasing the business.
“Before we opened on Lake Jordan, boaters didn’t have many options when they ran out of gas, needed a jumpstart or other assistance,” said Sykes, who is U.S. Coast Guard-licensed.
Sykes is also able to reach boaters on nearby Falls and Sharon Harris Lakes by trailering his response boat to those waters.
“It’s about a five-minute trip on the trailer,” said Sykes.
Sykes has stationed two response boats: a 20-foot Privateer and 24-foot Carolina Skiff. Each are fully rigged for marine towing and salvage work. The boats are also set up with full pollution containment equipment including an oil/water separation unit for hazardous spill response.
Sykes has hired two local, USCG-licensed captains to operate the port, including Brian Lischin, a retired police officer.
