Nevada boat market faces difficulties

RENO, Nev. — Boat dealers in the Reno-Sparks area are facing tough times, according to an article in the Northern Nevada Business Weekly.

Custom Boat & Marine was setting sales and revenue records in 2005 — since then, sales have declined by 75 to 80 percent.

They’re not alone. Other area dealers report layoffs, fewer showroom models and a reliance on service and accessory revenues to stay solvent.

Steve Zinio of Z-Marine now sells new boats on an order-only basis., according to the article.

Dealers have some optimism, though, due to melting snows that are expected to fill depleted area lakes. Increased consumer confidence will also help.
