Yacht club comes back after fire

CRANSTON, R.I. — The Edgewood Yacht Club and its members are prepping for the summer boating season, despite a fire that destroyed his historic clubhouse in January.

The clubhouse was a fixture at the marina since it was built in 1908. There was no damage to the docks or cottages and nobody was injured. The club is one of the oldest in Rhode Island.

“If anything, it’s energized everybody. We probably have about seven or eight new members bringing boats into the club this year, knowing what happened,” Sue Toland told a reporter from the Providence NBC affiliate.

According to the news report, new decking has replaced the burned area, and plans are in the works for a new building as well.
