IMI marina tour gets host

WARREN, R.I. — Tim Timpson will host and facilitate the International Marina Institute’s 5th Annual Southeast Florida Marina Study Tour, Oct. 26–27, according to a release from the group. The tour is produced by IMI, a subsidiary of the Association of Marina Industries.

Timpson has been in the marine industry for over 35 years and has five years experience hosting the Study Tour. He is presently the principal of MarinaResource LLC. This company provides consultation, management, and training to the marina industry. Prior to that, he was the executive director of the International Marina Institute until 2004. He assumed that position in 2002, replacing founder Paul Dodson. He has been a frequent speaker, instructor, and conference chair for IMI and has also served on several committees for IMI, including several years as the chair of the Certified Marina Manager Qualifications Review Committee. He received his Certified Marina Manager designation from IMI in 1994. He is also a writer whose articles appear frequently in the international marina trade press.

The Study Tour is a two-day mobile training course that takes participants on exclusive tours of marinas to provide an in-depth look at the operations of different types of facilities in the South Florida region. At the end of each day, attendees participate in a facilitated rountable discussion and SWOT analysis of each marina before heading to a networking dinner.

The 2011 Study Tour will be based at the Sheraton Suites Cypress Creek in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
