2011 Boating Congress to feature new additions
WASHINGTON — The 2011 American Boating Congress, which will be held May 4-5 in Washington, D.C., will feature several new additions, according to a release from the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
According to the group, the 2011 event is scheduled to include:
— A tax policy briefing presented by Ryan Abraham, professional staff of the Senate Finance Committee, and Dorothy Coleman, VP for Tax and Domestic Economic Policy at the National Association of Manufacturers. Abraham and Coleman will provide an overview of current and possible future legislative tax initiatives during this Congress and over the next two years.
— A Marine Trade Association luncheon, where local marine groups will gather to discuss regional and local issues such as Clean Water Act permits as well as issues around copper and antifouling bottom paint on boats.
— An update from the Environmental Protection Agency on the Clean Boating Act. Denise Keenher from the EPA’s Office of Wetlands, Oceans & Watersheds will give an update on the agency’s development of boating management practices.
— Remarks by Congressional Boating Caucus co-chairs Congresswoman Candice Miller (R-Mich.) and Congressman Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.). Rear Admiral Kevin Cook from the U.S. Coast Guard and Greg Ip of The Economist will also address the group.
— Individual and small group visits with members of Congress and their staffs. Attendees have a once-a-year opportunity to share their stories with legislators and talk about the industry’s most pressing policy issues and put a name to the face of individuals’ marine businesses.
