Canada toughens exam for pleasure boat operators
OTTAWA, Ontario — Transport Canada has developed a more stringent examination for citizens seeking pleasure boat operators’ cards.
The new test has 50 questions, which are intended to test knowledge of boating rules. The previous test was 36. The test can be taken in written form or online, though the online test requires a set amount of online training.
According to an article in the Ottawa Citizen, it’s estimated that 4 million Canadians will need to take the test, which is required for anyone to operate a pleasure boat in Canada. The fine for operating without a card is $250 CND.
