Pennsylvania on track for more strict boat DUI laws

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania House of Representatives voted yes to legislation that give more serious penalty to death as a result of operating watercraft under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The bill, House Bill 78, changes the penalty from a third-degree felony to a second-degree felony and a minimum of a three -ear prison sentence. The law could take effect in early May. It brings the penalty in line with similar automobile incidents.

The bill must be approved by the Pennsylvania senate before it becomes law.
