NOAA official meets with NMMA

MIAMI, Fla. — National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Administrator Jane Lubchenco made the rounds at the Miami International Boat Show, meeting with groups and marine businesses.

While at the show, she met with NMMA members and representatives from such entities as the Center for Coastal Conservation, American Sportfishing Association, Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, Yamaha, Maverick Boats and Navionics.

When speaking to Lubchenco, NMMA members addressed some of the industry’s top priorities, including coastal and marine spatial planning, catch shares and reallocation issues, as well as implementation of the Magnuson Stevens Act. The following day, Lubchenco and the NOAA staff sat down with leaders from the recreational industry to continue a more in-depth discussion on these issues.

Other NOAA officials in attendance include Fisheries Director Eric Schwaab, National Policy Advisor for Recreational Fisheries Russell Dunn and Director of External Affairs Andy Winer.
