Foreign marine associations partner to raise professionalism

NEW SOUTH WALES, Australia — The British Marine Federation and Marina Industries Association of Australia have reached an agreement to form Global Marina Industries, according to a recent press release from Marina Industries Association of Australia.
 
The two partners formed GMI to provide education, training, and certification for marinas and marina staff to raise standards within the marina industry in Europe, Asia, Australia and the rest of the world, excluding the United States, the release explains.
 
Mick Bettesworth, chief commercial officer of MDL Marinas Group PLC, will serve as the chair of GMI. The organization’s board of directors will include Sarah Dhanda, director of business development BMF, Debbie Burns, Marina Manager Ocean Village Marina and chair of UK/Europe CMM Group; Jeff d’Albora, director of MIAA; Steve Sammes, general manager of Gold Coast Marina and chair of Australia/Asia CMM Group, and Colin Bransgrove, executive director MIAA.
 
GMI will take responsibility for the Certified Marina Manager Program, the Certified Marina Operators Program, the Certified Marina Service Program, and other marina manager’s courses outside of the US. GMI will also develop new training and broader certification programs for marina staff.
