Donzi Marine could move to reduce costs

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — Donzi Marine could leave Southwest Florida for North Carolina, a state targeting the marine industry with generous incentives for manufacturers willing to move, according to a report in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

“The company is looking at different outsourcing opportunities to reduce costs,” Bill Gates, chief executive officer of Donzi and Pro-Line Boats, told the paper. “We’re looking at a number of different options, but we are not prepared to make any formal announcements.”

Gates also is CEO of North Carolina-based Fountain Boats, which exited bankruptcy protection under the ownership of private equity firm Liberty Associates.
