KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Winter furloughs will be extended for close to 600 Sea Ray employees in Tennessee this year, according to a report from television station WBIR in Knoxville.
Sea Ray workers typically take about a month off in the winter; however, this year the company’s Knoxville plant, which has 290 employees, will start furloughs on Oct. 4 and the Vonore plant, which has 320 employees, will start furloughs in November. Both plants will resume production on Jan. 4, according to the report.
A small staff will remain at the facilities during the furlough periods. Economic conditions were blamed for the extended furlough.
